The Landing Page: Present Relevant Information

CommBank invested a lot of money into their app and it shows with the amount of features they provide their users. However this can have downsides, leaving users feeling overwhelmed by the endless amount of options available to them.

Below is the advertised image of CommBanks app from the Play store, followed by my personal account freshly installed. Here lies the issue; for users who may not be as technologically informed, presenting their landing page with nothing is both underwhelming and daunting. A blank screen says to the users both you have unlimited options and no options at the same time.

With the goal of creating user focused design, creating a useable and engaging landing page is crucial. CommBank already has very informative screens throughout their app it just isn't presented to the user without some navigation on their end. Personally I think both the accounts page and portfolio page is highly informative about a users banking account.

Below I have sketched a landing page created by using the elements of the accounts and portfolio screens, making sure to include all the navigational buttons and develop a cleaner minimalist design based on the current CommBank app. By moving these screens to the landing page many users, specifically the older audience gain access to way more important information without any changes to the settings of the app. Additionally the smaller changes to the portfolio screen adds a more visual element to a users networth, including where the wealth comes from and what is impacting it.

These changes are only the beginning of recreating the CommBank app with user focused design in mind. These changes can benefit every user, however the group who is set to gain the most are the older users; who may be scared to alter an apps settings, especially something as scary as a bank (who know they could accidentally send all their money away, its a valid concern when you aren't sure how everything works).
